The New Consulate General of Italy in Barcelona was opened on 7 July 2021, in its new seat in Calle Aribau 185, in the presence of Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, Consul General Gaia Danese, Director General for administration, information technology and communications Nicandro Cascardi, Major of Barcelona Ada Colau and Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova.

The round table organised in partnership with Interni Magazine entitled “Design for the Institutions, the value of the Italian System”, saw the participation of leading Italian design companies that contributed to the interior design of the space, including Pedrali.

In her speech, Monica Pedrali underlined the importance of synergies between Italy and Spain resulting in projects and products: “Spanish architects appreciate Made in Italy design and often include Italian furnishings in their projects. According to them, furniture assumes a social value and cares for subjects such as environmental sustainability and inclusive technological innovation, respectful of their culture. Then there are the designers, whose talent draws inspiration from the desire to humanize objects, to design products that allow us to live better, depositaries of a circular beauty”.

The Dome armchairs designed by Odo Fioravanti and the Plural system designed by Jorge Pensi have been selected to furnish this space, which stems from the collaboration between the architectural firm Imad, Lagranja design studio for the interiors and Michela Mezzavilla for the lighting design.

Pedrali products become part of “Foresta M9. A landscape of ideas, community and future”, a one-of-a-kind art installation that will be on display until the 6th of June 2021 on the third floor of M9 – Museum of the 20th Century in Venice. Curated by Luca Molinari and Claudio Bertorelli, this temporary exhibition was conceived as both an oasis of peace and, at the same time, a symbol of rebirth for M9 Museum.

A temporary forest populated by approximately 600 tree essences and 180 trees. An emotional and essential place, an evocative landscape assuring a unique sensorial and cultural experience.

Foresta M9 bears witness to the great care that the Republic of Venice always paId to the safeguard of the environment and underlines the strict relationship between Veneto and its woodlands.

With this installation, the museum also inaugurates the “green semester”, a series of initiatives in which the themes of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for the Environment will be explored, workshops and initiatives for children and young people will be organised, with tours and readings dedicated to trees, coming to the inauguration of the first satellite exhibition dedicated to the great trees of Italian history.

Foresta M9 is fitted with chaise longue and tables from the Nolita collection by Pedrali.
Designed by CMP Design, Nolita is a collection of outdoor seating and tables which recalls the origins of a historic course started by Mario Pedrali in 1963 with his first metal garden chairs. Thanks to its summery and joyful character, Nolita offers convivial and relaxing moments within this wooded landscape, contributing to the atmosphere of this major cultural event.

By taking part to this installation, Pedrali continues to support and enhance the value of initiatives and events promoted within museums and exhibitions of value #Pedrali4art.

Home office: Pedrali’s proposals

Versatile and flexible workstations at home

With the rise of working from home, the house takes on new purposes and its environments get reconfigured according to these new needs, while becoming more and more fluid. On summer days, also outdoor settings, like terraces or balconies, are trasformed into temporary offices.
For this reason Pedrali proposes flexible and versatile furniture, suitable to both the office and the home, or space-saving for small environments. Armchairs assuring maximum comfort, flexible tables responding to the user’s or space’s need and complements that furnish with style while guaranteeing maximum efficiency. Pedrali solutions allow to create refined workstations with high quality aesthethic, without forgetting ergonomics.

To meet these requirements, Robin Rizzini designs two products: Toa desk and Toa Folding Screen. Lightweight and minimalist, the Toa table is characterised by a solid die-cast aluminium frame in a fluid geometric design. Toa is equally suitable for “light” offices, executive rooms and residential spaces, thanks to its smaller sizes.
Toa Folding Screen is a sound absorbing desktop panel that separates and defines spaces. Given that it is extremely lightweight, the screen can be folded with ease and moved from one place to another, creating a defined and sound-proofed workstation.

Temps low back, by Jorge Pensi, the latest version of Temps executive chair, is now characterised by a lower backrest. It is designed to seamlessly fit both in office meeting rooms and residential settings.
Pure and elegant, Temps low back has a striking feature in its height-adjustable base made in die-cast aluminium. The seat and backrest are comfortable and warm with its polyurethane injected foam padding, cosily embracing the person sitting on the chair.

Another product designed by Jorge Pensi is the tilting version of Ypsilon table, which helps to organize modern co-working spaces by meeting their constant need for change. The stackable table with wheels and tilting top, can be moved and stored away when not in use.

Elinor, by Claudio Bellini, is an executive chair designed for the office that can fit into domestic contexts as well, thanks to the enveloping polyurethane injected foam seat and back and the weight-activated synchro-tilt mechanism integrated in the seat, Elinor allows the tilting to be self-regulated according to the user’s body weight, ensuring that the back is kept in the most comfortable position.

The Arki family expands with Arki-desk. The Arki-Desk’s clean, linear design makes it particularly versatile and suitable for flexible and functional modern corporate and home offices.

Boxie is a modular, versatile and colourful storage system with wheels designed by Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci, made up of large polypropylene drawers and tops housed in a coated steel frame. We can easily picture it into an office, a room, or a studio.

Comfort and ergonomics of executive chairs are elements that we find also in some upholstered armchairs by Pedrali, such as Blume, Vic and Jazz.

The partnership with the German designer Sebastian Herkner gives rise to Blume collection. A chair and a lounge chair characterized by soft and rounded shapes, owe their distinctive appearance to their sophisticated flower-shaped profile in extruded aluminium.

Vic chair, by Patrick Norguet, draws inspiration from classic mid-century armchairs. A comfortable and cozy collection featured by a curved backrest raised from the seat, which creates a lightness sensation.

A perfect balance of proportions and thicknesses gives life to Jazz a collection of upholstered seating where the gently curved backrest is supported by a light and graceful steel structure.

Finally, can’t be missing three seats that wink at the office world, but find their perfect placement in domestic environments also: Nym soft, Laja and Ester.

Nym Soft, designed by CMP Design, comes in a new height-adjustable version with aluminiun five-star base with castors, designed for home offices and working spaces.

Stylistic simplicity defines the Laja collection, designed by Alessandro Busana. An armchair in which comfort is assured thanks to the seat formed by crossed elastic belts, immersed in polyurethane foam, with a slightly elastic and welcoming back.

Lastly, Ester, by Patrick Jouin, is a mix of elegance and functionality. The soft and graceful lines an the great comfort offered by the seat dinstinguish the settings in which it is placed.

Pedrali’s Green Corporate Carbon Footprint

Pedrali assesses its Corporate Carbon Footprint and obtains the

UNI EN ISO 14064-1:2019 certification

Measuring greenhouse gas emissions is an act of responsibility towards the planet.
After completing its Corporate Carbon Footprint assessment, Pedrali obtained its certification according to the UNI EN ISO 14064-1:2019 standard.
The assessment measured the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced, directly and indirectly, by the organisation’s business activities over a given time interval.

The all-Italian company, whose “green” philosophy and choices reflect a long consolidated environmentally friendly approach, took its cue from the fact and awareness that, at a time which is characterised by a disruptive and inordinate maximisation of environmental resources, social responsibility means not only basing production and work ethics on “green” choices, but also making such choices an integral part of the corporate culture, as well as a medium-to-long-term business objective.

“By analysing how much CO₂ we emit, we can determine the impact of our entire production cycle on the environment. With concrete data to hand, we can define continuous, monitorable and therefore achievable improvement goals,” says Giuseppe Pedrali.

The assessment was carried out in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 14064-1:2019 standard to identify, quantify and manage the GHG (carbon Footprint) emissions, reported in tons of CO2 equivalent, linked with Pedrali's production activities in 2018 at the sites of Mornico al Serio, in the province of Bergamo, where metal, plastic and upholstered furniture is produced, and of Manzano, in the province of Udine, where wooden furniture is produced. This standard applies a transparent, consistent method yielding objective, comparable results.

Emissions are identified and calculated based on four different sources: direct emissions from the combustion of natural gas, from the loss of refrigerant gases, or from the combustion of diesel fuel by the company’s motor vehicles; indirect emissions through the use of electricity at company sites; indirect emissions from the transportation of raw materials, from electrical leakage, or from production of diesel and natural gas; finally, indirect GHG emissions associated with products, goods and services purchased and utilized by the company.

Upon analysing the results of this assessment, Pedrali aims to reduce the CO₂ emitted into the environment. In order to do this, and to quantify and measure the results achieved, the company is implementing a series of improvements relating to each of the above sources. This will make it possible to record the positive swing expected in the coming years, and to set clearly identifiable goals.

Deciding arbitrarily to perform such an assessment and to obtain the relating certification has allowed the company to understand the weaknesses in its production cycles from an environmental standpoint. With objectively measurable data, it is possible to reduce waste and increase efficiency, while promoting a green business policy based on concrete and comparable data.

Ara: 10 years together

Pedrali celebrates the tenth anniversary of the seating designed by Jorge Pensi Design Studio

2021 marks for Pedrali a special anniversary: ten years of Ara collection, designed by Jorge Pensi. A seating made in polypropylene featuring an aesthetic, well-balanced language, that becomes so unique thanks to the peculiar handle placed at the end of the backrest.

A successfull collection that came to life spontaneously, almost naturally, while sitting at the table of an airport bar, as Jorge Pensi remembers: “in 2011 I went with Diego, a collaborator of mine, to the showroom of Pedrali to discuss a new project with Giuseppe. The briefing was about a chair made from a polypropylene monoblock, with and without armrests. Once we arrived at the airport on our way home to Barcellona, we found out that our flight was delayed and so, while waiting, sitting in a bar, I drew Ara on a paper napkin. And it was at the precise moment I drew it, that I immediately thought the handle had to become the peculiarity of this seating collection in order to make it recognizable and timeless”.

Ten years later, Ara is one of the most iconic Pedrali products, picked by architects and interior designers from all over the world to decor home and contract projects. “I suppose that the reason why Ara is still a trend even today lies in its neutral shapes, in its extreme comfort and in the quality of the material used, as well as in its peculiar element” – explains the designer. The handle on the back has become the distinctive trait of the collection, while making it at the same time stylistically recognizable and easy to handle, with ease and elegance.

The collaboration between Jorge Pensi and Pedrali began in 2008 with Ypsilon table, while Ara is the first seating he has ever designed for the company.

“Ara is a seating made from a monoblock of injection-moulded polypropylene. We selected this material precisely for this purpose” – reveals the designer, and continues – “being generally placed under the table, the first thing you notice in a chair is its backrest. So we decided that the backrest had to be elegant, focusing on the handle while at the same time concealing the stackability”.

The collection comprises a chair, an armchair and a lounge, the latter introduced a few years later, in 2015.

The popularity of this seating is highlighted by its presence within numerous projects. Ara joined the Starfiel Library in Seoul, one of the most beautiful libraries on earth in which volumes and magazine from all over the world are gathered, located in the biggest mall of Asia. Ara was selected to furnish also other spaces, such as Convento della Ripa cloister in Albino, close to Bergamo, a place full of architectural and historical suggestions, or Primo Restaurant courtyard in Lecce, where the guests can taste their dinner surrounded by an intimate and charming atmosphere. Lounge armchairs also dressed the streets of Città Alta in Bergamo on the occasion of the international exhibition “I Maestri del Paesaggio”.

“It is exciting, while traveling around the world, to stumble upon projects that were born in our own studio, to see that people chose them, that they use them. In those moments we become aware of the sense of our job and this encourages us to keep going” – concludes the designer.

Special Outdoor: an oasis of outdoor comfort

Pedrali's outdoor collections for furnishing gardens and terraces

The last few months has seen an increased interest in outdoor furniture for our homes, outdoor spaces of restaurants and cafés, and for common areas of work environments. These spaces are ever more being designed to ensure well-being and for an escape from everyday life.
Pedrali interprets these trends with refined, high-quality products ensuring durability, efficiency and functionality, made of materials that are easy to clean, maintain and sanitise, also with aggressive detergents.
Pedrali’s outdoor collections are light, allowing them to be easily moved around, and are mostly stackable, to save space while not in use or simply store away at the end of the day. The materials used make resistant to weathering, salty sea air and sunlight to preserve their beauty and quality over time. And all this without renouncing on attention to detail, for truly pleasant and relaxing open-air spaces.

Among the novelties, Panarea, the collection designed by CMP Design, rooted in the colours and refreshing breeze of an outdoor dinner on a sea-facing terrace.
An armchair and a lounge armchair featuring a traditional element hand-woven in Italy. The use of polypropylene cord emphasises Panarea’s elegant appearance and gives the seating a three-dimensionality and graphic rigour, as well as making it transparent, easy to move.
The comfort is enhanced by a comfortable cushion in dry-feel polyurethane foam that dries quickly and covered in fabric made from the same yarn used for the woven element.

Reva Twist elegant three-seater sofa and lounge armchair give life to contemporary and urban settings.
The collection designed by Patrick Jouin is characterized by soft lines and generous sizes. The four tapered legs in die-cast aluminium are placed at the extremities of the perimeter frame in extruded aluminium, the steel backrest and armrests are woven with a flat rope in weather-resistant polypropylene, for a more natural appearance.

To customize terraces and gardens, Pedrali proposes Rail, a sun lounger defined by simple, modern lines. Its slim frame in powder coated aluminium has four angled legs in stainless steel featuring an oblique design. The seat and backrest are in textilene. Upholstered in water-repellent, UV-resistant fabric, the comfortable cushion is padded in dry-feel foam and allow to enjoy moments of relax.

Remind is a functional, versatile and relatively small chair designed by Eugeni Quitllet. A chair made of polypropylene, suitable for outdoor use thanks to the combination of harmonious lines and a lightweight yet solid material.
In Santorini, in the magical and suggestive context of Maregio Suites by Fotinos, an intimate hotel with a splendid sunset view on Caldera. Remind polypropylene armchairs have been selected to furnish the outdoor common areas and the suites’ terraces.
Remind also comes in a special version made entirely from recycled material: 50% from plastic material post-consumer waste and 50% from plastic material industrial waste.

Gossip polypropylene armchair, with sinuous and rounded shapes, lightweight and stackable, is now available in the “recycled grey” version, made entirely from recycled plastic material.

In Soul Outdoor, designed by Eugeni Quitllet, predominates a pleasant contrast between the curved aluminium frame and the teak ensure a great aesthetic result, thanks to the shininess of the metal, while preserving the shape and the sinuosity of the lines.

Recognizable for its summery traits, Tribeca collection features exceptional locations such as Vaeshartelt Castle in Maastricht, that today features a hotel, a bar and restaurants surrounded by a beautiful garden. Tribeca armchairs and barstools, in the tones of pink and terracotta, furnish “The Greenhouse”, the coffee shop located in the greenhouse designed by Reiters studio.
And it is the colour, exhaled by Tribeca, the ingredient that can make the Madrilenian terrace of the Room Mate Macarena Hotel memorable, true oasis of peace on top of Madrid’s Gran Vía.

Also Nolita outdoor collection, by CMP Design, gives elegance and freshness to en plein air locations worldwide. Nestled in the Mediterranean scents, Gattopardo Hotel offers a breathtaking view on the turquoise waters of Lampedusa. Carefully furnished with natural materials, armchairs and lounge chairs contribute to the guests’ relax.
The collection has also been selected for Natu Restaurant, in the garden of Goulandris Museum of Natural History in Athens. Designed by Stones and Walls studio.

Again in Athens, on the rooftop terrace of Brown Acropol Hotel by Brown Hotels, comfortably seated on Tribeca barstools, it is possible to spend the night tasting dishes from the Greek culinary tradition in the restaurant that offers a breathtaking view on the Acropolis and Mount Licabetto.

Lastly, Ara collection naturally fit in the outdoor areas of contemporary and modern bars. It has been selected to furnish different spaces, such as Convento della Ripa cloister in Albino, a place full of architectural and historical suggestions, or Primo Restaurant courtyard in Lecce, where the guests can taste their dinner surrounded by an intimate and charming atmosphere.

Pedrali tables can express the outdoor conviviality, getting transversality and comfort out in the open air. Characterised by technically advanced materials, they are easy to clean and sanitise, and furnish the outdoors while combining functionality and elegance. The powder coating is available in a wide range of colours, as well as neutral tones. The tops are also available in material effects, such as the stone, to recall nature.

Fabbrico table, made of powder coated steel treated for outdoor use, stands out for its minimal, essential aesthetics. Available in the size 1m x 1m, this table is the perfect solution for contract and hospitality environments, to put the guests at ease, while respecting the minimum distances required at this time.

Toa, designed by Robin Rizzini, is a functional and evocative table. Lightweight and minimalist, it is characterised by a solid die-cast aluminium frame. Thanks to the possibility to match tops in durable materials such as the solid laminate, also in stone or terrazzo effect, it is possible to bring the indoor comfort out.

Elliot tables, by Patrick Jouin, thanks to specific finishes and bright colours, are designed to fit in different environments, outdoors included. These tables have been selected to furnish enchanting locations, such as Bohem La Stazione, a magical and suggestive venue located between Iseo lake and Franciacorta vineyards, and Plage la Mandala coffee bar in Cannes, to spend moments of conviviality with friends in a colourful environment by the sea.

To light up the nights, Pedrali proposes Giravolta, the wireless, rechargeable lamp with a contemporary design by Basaglia Rota Nodari.
